Little Plants
Dec 18, 2009 Orchid Propagation
I checked on the flasks today. I could see little plants forming. They sure are tiny. Anyhow, it looks like the encyclia oncidioides, encyclia parviflora, brassavola cucullata and the brassavola nadosa all are starting to germinate. The only bad thing is that one of the brassavola cucullata flasks has some contamination. It looks like it started around the seeds, so the seeds probably weren’t disinfected enough (I will try a little more peroxide next time).

Orchids from Troy Meyers
Nov 2, 2009 orchids
I received my 2 orchid flasks from Troy Meyers (see posting below). They turned out pretty good. I ended up with 5 pots of each variety. Each pot has 5 or 6 plants in it. I also have one pot of each variety with 5 plants each that I plan on mounting on my artificial tree fern material as soon as it comes in. The brassavola cucullata flask also had a bunch of tiny plants (these are very tiny). I was able to put all of the extra little plants in two pots with about 25 plants each.

Orchid Flasks From Meyers Conservatory
Oct 23, 2009 orchids
I found out that 2 of my flasks from the Meyers Conservatory are ready to be shipped. It turns out that these were ready quite quickly. I thought that it would be a few months before they were ready, but I got the email a couple days ago. The two flasks are:
1 flask TN6424 Brassavola cucullata ‘Sym’ -spontaneous
1 flask TN6377 Bulbophyllum plumatum ‘Halcyon’ x ‘Leddie’s
Troy sent some information including information on how to handle the new plants when they arrive. He has a really good technique there. In the past, I have not been so careful with potting up flasks or compots. I will try out his technique and see how it works out for me.
I am really anticipating the Brassavola cucullata. I already have one blooming size one (you can see it on my flickr page). It is a really nice plant with a fantastic fragrance (only at night). The Bulbophyllum will be nice too. It is my first Bulbophyllum, so it should be interesting to see how it like my growing conditions here.

OSP seeds arrive
Oct 6, 2009 Orchid Propagation
I ordered some seeds from the Orchid Seedbank Project last week. They arrived yesterday. I ordered the following: brassavola nadosa, brassavola cucullata, encyclia parviflora, encyclia oncidioides, encyclia alata and encyclia cochleata. I am waiting on my other supplies, so I won’t be able to flask these up for a couple weeks.
I also ordered some seeds last week from Thailand (through ebay). I am not sure if that will work out or not, but I figured it was worth a try. I ordered the following: dendrobium unicum, dendrobium draconis, dendrobium secundum and dendrobium aggregatum (lindleyi). I will let you know how that turns out.
