flask decontamination followup

So, that didn’t work to good. The flask that I tried to decontaminate blossomed into a flask of mold. Oh, well, it was worth a try. If I have another one with contamination, maybe I will try something a little different.

flasking – fourth set

I planted seeds in 16 flasks today. I stuck with the 15 drops of peroxide since that seemed to be just about right.

flask decontamination

I had a flask of brassavola cucullata that was contaminated (actually 2 of them). One of them was really bad, so I just opened that one up and cleaned it out so I could re-use the flask later.

The other one just had a small amount of contamination. I had my flasking tank set up, and thought that maybe I could cut out the bad part and leave the rest. It was pretty easy to do, but I am not sure how successful it will be – I should know in a week or so. This also gave me a chance to break out the microscope again and take a look at the little plants that were in the contaminated zone.

seed pod ready

One of my encyclia tampensis seed pods finally was ready. The plant was inside and I happened to see that it the pod started to split. I made a little bag for it out of wax paper. I will try to flask some of the seeds soon.

getting more flasks ready

I figure it will be any day now that my encyclia tampensis seeds will be ready. I want to be able to flask some seeds up as soon as they are ready, so I made up some more flasks today. I used different mason jars this time and the same amount of media made up 12 jars, plus 2 small mason jars and 2 baby food jars.
